Pmnts vs FreshBooks
FreshBooks prices by how many clients you have, which is an unusual thing to be charged for.
As of August 2026: Lite is $23 a month and stops at 5 billable clients. Plus is $43 and stops at 50. Premium is $70. Each extra team member is $11 a month, Advanced Payments is another $20, and in mid-2026 saved-card transactions moved from 2.9% to 3.5% + $0.30.
Pmnts is $9 a month, or $90 a year, with no client cap at any price. Card payments run through your own Stripe account, and Pmnts never adds a percentage on top.

Be honest
When FreshBooks is the better choice
Three cases where switching to Pmnts would be a downgrade. If any of them is you, stay put — FreshBooks is the right tool.
You bill by the hour and quote before you start
Time tracking, estimates, proposals and retainers sit in the same place as the invoice in FreshBooks. Pmnts has none of them.
You need books, not just invoices
Expenses, receipt capture, bank reconciliation, and the reports an accountant asks for at year end. Pmnts is not accounting software and won't pretend otherwise.
Someone else does your accounting in it
If your bookkeeper already works in FreshBooks, moving them costs something real, and it isn't measured in dollars a month.
