Pmnts vs Invoice Simple

Invoice Simple's subscription looks cheaper than Pmnts. The card rate is where the difference goes.

As of August 2026, $6.99 a month allows 3 invoices a month, $14.99 allows 10, and unlimited is $21.99. Card payments in the US run 3.49% + $0.49 — above Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢, above FreshBooks, and above the 2.90% + C$0.30 the same product charges in Canada.

On $10,000 a month of card payments, that difference is roughly $60 more than the same invoices would cost you in Stripe fees — every month, on top of the subscription. Pmnts is $9 a month or $90 a year, unlimited invoices on Pro, paid through your own Stripe account.

Be honest

When Invoice Simple is the better choice

Three cases where switching to Pmnts would be a downgrade. If any of them is you, stay put — Invoice Simple is the right tool.

You invoice from a phone, on site

Invoice Simple is a genuinely good mobile app: build the invoice at the job, hand it over before you leave, take payment there. Pmnts runs in a browser and has no iOS or Android app to open in the cab of a truck.

You send two or three small invoices a month

At low volume the maths flips. The $6.99 plan plus a higher card rate can come out under $9 a month — the markup only bites once card volume climbs.

You get paid mostly in cash or by cheque

If cards are rare, the card rate is irrelevant and the cheapest subscription simply wins.

What you'd actually get

Everything Pmnts does

It's a short list on purpose. Pmnts is not accounting software: no expenses, no time tracking, no bookkeeping, no payroll, no teams.

  • Unlimited invoices on Pro for $9 a month, whatever the volume
  • Card payments at Stripe's rate into your own Stripe account, not a marked-up rate
  • Automated reminders that follow up on a schedule
  • Recurring invoices for repeat customers
  • Eight templates, your logo and brand color, and CSV export

FAQ

Questions people ask before moving

Is Pmnts cheaper if its subscription costs more?

It depends on card volume. The subscription gap is a couple of dollars; the rate gap is 0.59% plus about 19¢ per payment. Somewhere in the low hundreds of dollars a month in card payments they cancel out, and above that Pmnts costs less — by roughly $60 a month at $10,000. Rates as of August 2026.

Is there a Pmnts mobile app?

No. Pmnts runs in a browser. If you build invoices from your phone all day, a native app is the better tool and Invoice Simple is a good one.

What does Pmnts charge per invoice?

Nothing. It's $9 a month or $90 a year, and Stripe's own rate on card payments into your own account. There's a free tier as well — the current limits are on the pricing page.
